Journey to the Past
History of Karmi Village
Karmi Village, or Karaman Village with its official name, was first established in the late 1800s. The British nobles and rich people who settled here discovered the natural beauties of the location and the population increased rapidly during this period. However, this increase ended in 1974. After the British families left the island due to the bloody events in Cyprus, the village remained empty for a long time. In 1979, homeowners, mostly German and British families, were invited to the island. However, as a condition of the invitation, the restoration of the houses here was demanded. Many families agreed to fulfill the demands and brought the village back to life. Today there are two pubs and two restaurants in the village. The village population is almost entirely made up of British and German couples over the age of 55.
