Journey to the Past
Bandabulya Kyrenia Bazaar History
The foundations of this covered bazaar surrounded by stone walls were not laid as a bazaar. In 1878, the island was under British rule and the British wanted to establish a community center. This is how the centuries-old structure first emerged.
Soon after its construction, the Bandabulya was opened for the use of merchants and traders. All kinds of goods were traded here and local people met many of their needs here. It continued to be used as a trade area until almost 1980. In 2005, the building was restored and today there are traditional handicraft stands and various cafes.
