What is there to see in Petra tou Limnidi Island?
The island is an important archaeological site with remains from the Neolithic Period. In 1929, excavations carried out by the Swedish Cyprus Expedition uncovered the remains of planned settlements and houses on the island. The flint tools, bone needles, stone axes and farming implements found show that the people living on the island were engaged in agriculture, fishing and hunting. In addition, tools made of obsidian stone indicate that the island had commercial and cultural relations with Anatolia.
It is thought that this island served as a refuge for sailors when people lived on it. Today, the island is an important breeding ground for bird species such as yellow-legged gulls and crested cormorants. This small island of Petra tou Limnidi is the protagonist of the breathtaking view from the Vouni Palace.
